The GameCube was Nintendo's first disc-based console, using 8 cm mini-DVDs, and sold behind both the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox. It is a small, solid machine with a handle on the back, and its controller is still the standard for Super Smash Bros. players today.
Its library is short compared to the PS2 but has a high hit rate: Super Smash Bros. Melee, Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil 4 and the Resident Evil remake. Small print runs make several titles expensive, especially Pokémon XD, Pokémon Colosseum, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Skies of Arcadia Legends and Gotcha Force.
Most GameCube games came in plastic cases, so complete copies survive well, and the price gap between loose and complete is smaller than on N64. The Game Boy Player add-on and the digital-out "DOL-001" models with component video cables are sought after by people setting up for play.

The Panasonic Q (sometimes known as Q and GameQ) is a hybrid version of the Nintendo GameCube with a DVD player manufactured by Panasonic in cooperation with Nintendo. The system was officially released only in Japan. A feature of its main competitors Xbox and PlayStation 2, the GameCube lacked commercial DVD movie playback functionality due to the use of the Nintendo optical disc format for games and the correspondingly small disc tray.
